South Indian actor Dhanush is set to meet more than 3,000 women members of his fan club on Sunday. This event follows the renaming of his club, sparking talk of a political debut. Meanwhile, Congress leader Manickam Tagore alleged that “Operation D started in Tamil Nadu” to promote new outfits.

This comes days after the Dhanush Fans Club was officially renamed the ‘Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam’ (Dhanush Welfare Movement), sparking speculation about the actor’s political debut.

Amid speculation about a possible debut in Tamil Nadu politics, South Indian actor Dhanush is set to meet more than 3,000 women members of his official fan club on Sunday.

This comes days after the Dhanush Fans Club was officially renamed the ‘Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam’ (Dhanush Welfare Movement), sparking speculation about the actor’s political debut.

Buzz Over Dhanush’s Political Debut Grows

The 43-year-old actor is expected to meet the fan club’s women executives and volunteers at a private engineering college on the outskirts of Chennai. The venue has been decorated with banners and posters featuring the actor, Hindustan Times reported.

The fan club’s name change was formally approved at an executives’ meeting in Coimbatore on October 14. The organisation also unveiled a new logo featuring Dhanush with folded hands, surrounded by a red star and a circular red-and-white border.

‘Operation D’ Started In Tamil Nadu: Congress

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress chief and MP Manickam Tagore, earlier in the day, alleged that the BJP was attempting to promote film personalities and new political outfits in Tamil Nadu. Without making any reference to the actor, the Congress MP, however, alleged that “Operation D" was underway in the southern state.

“‘Operation D’ started in Tamil Nadu… they (BJP) wanted to prop up a cine star as a front for them. They have already finished AIADMK. They tried with Mr. Rajinikanth to start a party. Now they made Annamalai to form a new outfit. These are all ideologically leaned towards only one ideology, that is Amit Shah’s ideology. Therefore, we feel that this new kind of party, anybody has the freedom to start parties…," the Congress leader told reporters.

Dhanush had earlier urged his fans to take up social welfare activities at an event in Tiruvallur district on July 27, rather than limiting their participation to film-related events.

“You need to give this unity a purpose. Not just by attending audio launches (of his movies) but joining hands to do welfare work in your neighbouring areas. Do whatever you can for the people in your respective region, for the families living near you," he said.

Last week, reports claimed that Dhanush had visited Delhi to meet political leaders. Responding to questions about his possible political debut, DMK veteran S Regupathy said, “In a democratic country, anyone can enter politics. They have the democratic right."

“When Vijay can enter politics, why not Dhanush?" he added.
