Ramayana First Review: The first review of Nitesh Tiwari's much-awaited Ramayana is out, and it has raised expectations surrounding the Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash starrer. Popular YouTuber and content creator Ashish Chanchlani has shared his reaction to the film on X (formerly Twitter), calling it a blockbuster of epic proportions and praising its action sequences, performances and visual spectacle. While he pointed out a few minor technical shortcomings, Chanchlani believes the film has all the ingredients to become a historic blockbuster.
In his detailed review, Chanchlani described Ramayana as a cinematic experience that delivers some of the best action set pieces Indian cinema has witnessed. However, he was particularly impressed by the film's director, Nitesh Tiwari, crediting him for holding the ambitious project together. Calling the film entirely Tiwari's ship, he wrote that the filmmaker sails it with supreme control. According to Chanchlani, the director's vision and execution are among the film's biggest strengths, particularly when it comes to balancing its larger-than-life spectacle with emotional storytelling.
Chanchlani had special appreciation for the film's casting, describing it as perfection. He praised Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, stating that all three actors had delivered impressive performances. He also singled out Ravi Dubey, who plays Lakshman, for special praise.
Chanchlani was particularly impressed by Dubey's portrayal, saying that the actor absolutely smashed his role. He also revealed that some of the character's scenes bring unexpected humour and wholesome moments to the narrative. Interestingly, his reaction suggests that Ramayana is not entirely dependent on its action and visual effects. The film also appears to have moments of emotional warmth and humour that add to the overall cinematic experience.
Among the sequences that particularly stayed with him was the Jatayu fight scene. Revealing how deeply it affected him, Chanchlani said he was sobbing towards the end of the sequence. He also praised what he described as the Raavan's mind sequence, calling it mind-blowing and adding that audiences would not see it coming. According to him, this is where Tiwari's storytelling abilities truly shine. “The Raavan’s mind sequence was mind blowing (yeah pun Intended) You wont see it coming. Thats where Nitesh Tiwari shines,” he wrote.
While the reviewer acknowledged a few technical hiccups, particularly certain de-ageing shots in night sequences that appeared slightly off, he felt the tight editing ensured that these shortcomings barely affected the viewing experience. He also applauded DNEG and Namit Malhotra for taking creative and technical risks, adding that every action sequence outdid the previous one.
Chanchlani's biggest recommendation was that audiences experience Ramayana on the largest screen possible. He cautioned viewers against judging the film through leaked footage or resorting to piracy, stressing that the ambitious production has been designed for the theatrical experience. The YouTuber believes that nothing can stop the film from becoming a historic blockbuster.
