Net profit falls 23% to ₹53.7 crore in Q2; outbound bookings rise 30% amid partial inbound recovery

Thomas Cook India is seeing improvement in its travel business on a sequential basis driven by higher forward bookings and partial recovery in its inbound business in international markets, the company's Managing Director & CEO Mahesh Iyer said on Tuesday.

The company reported a 23 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in its net profit to ₹53.7 crore in Q2 FY27 due to lower revenue.

While foreign exchange and leisure hospitality portfolios saw a 21 per cent rise in revenue, the travel segment remained under pressure. On an overall basis, the travel segment revenue declined 7 per cent y-o-y.

Speaking at the post-results conference call, Iyer, however, said there were signs of recovery in the inbound business in comparison to the first quarter which had seen much higher impact due to tensions in West Asia.

Outbound travel business from India is also showing momentum with a 30 per cent increase in forward bookings y-o-y despite higher airfares. He said Europe and Asia packages are performing well while Japan continues to see traction. The corporate travel segment showed an increase due to a rise in hotel bookings.

Iyer said business remains resilient and disciplined execution with a clear focus on margins has helped the company to offset some shortfall in the travel business.

The company has launched new travel offerings and expanded its presence through franchisee stores to tap growth, Iyer said. Thomas Cook India has also enhanced its AI chatbot to enable personalised travel itineraries for customers, he added.
