Chief Minister Joseph Vijay launched the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Ecosystem Scheme on Wednesday to boost local manufacturing. The plan offers customised incentives for projects, including those outside federal schemes. TN Industries Minister S. Keerthana said, “We are building the industries of tomorrow in Tamil Nadu,” aiming to create many high-value jobs.

To position Tamil Nadu as a leading semiconductor and advanced electronics manufacturing hub in India, the new TVK-led Government of Tamil Nadu has launched the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Ecosystem Scheme.

Chief Minister Joseph Vijay launched the scheme here on Wednesday on behalf of the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department.

Two categories of incentives

The Tamil Nadu Semiconductor Ecosystem Scheme is proposed to be implemented under two categories.

Investment projects approved under the Government of India’s Semicon India Programme 2.0 / India Semiconductor Mission shall be provided additional incentives and support by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Further, the Government of Tamil Nadu shall provide eligible investment projects not covered under the Government of India’s scheme, but considered important for Tamil Nadu’s semiconductor ecosystem, with customised support and incentives based on their requirements.

Semiconductor and electronics park planned

The government had earlier also announced a “Semiconductor and Electronics Park” that would be established at Maduramangalam in Kancheepuram District.

“Covering wafer fabrication, assembly, testing, packaging, equipment and raw materials, this initiative will strengthen our domestic supply chains, attract investments and create high-value jobs. We are building the industries of tomorrow in Tamil Nadu,” TN Industries Minister S. Keerthana said.
