What should silver buyers keep in mind ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali?Since a lot of people must have been thinking of buying silver jewellery ahead of the festivals of Dhanteras and Diwali, they should compare prices across jewellers before making a purchase. The IBJA rate is not the final rate that a jeweller offers. The final rate of a silver jewellery item may include the Goods and Services Tax (GST), making charges and other applicable costs.
At the same time, it is also important to check the purity of silver you are buying.

Silver jewellery hallmarking: Check HUID and purity before buyingThe Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) introduced hallmarking for silver jewellery on a voluntary basis in October 2005. Under the scheme, jewellers can obtain a certificate of registration under IS 2112 to sell hallmarked silver jewellery.
The BIS has since updated the hallmarking standard by introducing IS 2112:2025, which replaces the earlier IS 2112:2014.
It incorporates the HUID hallmarking of silver jewellery/artefacts, which will also improve traceability and is more like the hallmarking system for gold.
Under the revision, the consumer will be able to identify the type of article, jeweller registration No., etc., of silver jewellery/articles hallmarked on or after September 1, 2025, through the BIS Care app.
