Rolls-Royce has announced a £300 million investment in its manufacturing and engineering facilities across the UK. The company said the investment reinforces its commitment to the UK’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem, laying the groundwork for further growth across its global civil aerospace and defence businesses. Rolls-Royce has invested more than £3 billion in the UK since the start of its transformation programme in 2023. It has been investing in R&D and advanced engineering programmes, alongside upgrading its facilities and infrastructure. The new investment will ensure Rolls-Royce’s UK infrastructure can meet manufacturing demand and support the development of future aerospace programmes, the company said.
Aviation sector’s $3.2 t sustainability bill
The upcoming International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) talks are expected to provide a rare opportunity to ensure the global economic framework encourages investment in decarbonisation. The ICAO and its member states have set a collective goal and vision: Net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with cleaner fuels to reduce 5 per cent emissions by 2030. Cleaner aviation energies are expected to bring over half of the emission reductions needed to reach net-zero, but the scale of transition is unprecedented. The ICAO estimates $3.2 trillion will be needed through 2050 to ramp up clean energy production for international aviation. And the remainder of the emissions will need to be addressed through technological innovation, operational improvement and a market-based approach.
