The Digital Agriculture Mission created 11 crore Farmer IDs five months ahead of the 31 March 2027 deadline. Union Minister Shivraj Singh said this achievement reflects the government's commitment to leveraging digital technology for farmer welfare. This initiative uses AgriStack to make service delivery more efficient, transparent, and targeted for farmers.
Strengthening the digital foundation of Indian agriculture was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. Ensuring the benefits of digital transformation reach every farmer was his mission. In a major step towards building a robust digital foundation for Indian agriculture, the Digital Agriculture Mission has achieved the historic milestone of 11 crore Farmer IDs, five months ahead of the stipulated deadline of 31 March 2027. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's agriculture sector is witnessing a significant transformation through technology-enabled governance, transparency and digital innovation. AgriStack, a key component of the Digital Agriculture Mission, is establishing a reliable digital foundation for the agriculture sector through the Farmer Registry, Digital Crop Survey and geo-referenced village maps. The Farmer ID provides a digital identity to farmers and facilitates their identification for agricultural schemes and services. It is expected to make service delivery more efficient, transparent and targeted, while facilitating access to benefits associated with government procurement, crop insurance, disaster relief, institutional credit and Kisan Credit Cards. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Shivraj Singh said this achievement reflects the Modi Government's commitment to leveraging digital technology for the welfare and empowerment of farmers. The milestone marks significant progress towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, with farmers at the centre of India's development journey towards digital transformation in agriculture. Farmer ID-based service delivery has already helped extend benefits to more than 6 crore farmers. Improved identification and targeted delivery are also contributing to greater transparency and efficiency, with significant savings across various sectors. As the digital ecosystem expands, it is expected to support better agricultural planning, evidence-based policymaking and more effective delivery of services to farmers. The achievement is the result of the collective efforts of Central and State Governments, UT Administrations, district administrations, and officials and staff working at the grassroots level. Their sustained efforts have been instrumental in advancing the nationwide implementation of the Farmer Registry. States are also taking steps to ensure the inclusion of tenant farmers, actual cultivators and other eligible categories of farmers through appropriate arrangements. This achievement of empowering farmers through technology lays the groundwork for a more inclusive, transparent, efficient and farmer-centric agricultural ecosystem, advancing the Prime Minister's vision of Viksit Bharat and "minimum government, maximum governance".
