Israel is stepping up efforts to woo Indian tourists with the planned resumption of Air India’s nonstop flights between Delhi and Tel Aviv from December 1.

Over the last week Israel’s tourism ministry held roadshows in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru showcasing its diverse attractions, shared connections with India and clarifying doubts about its visa procedures.

“There are lot of misconceptions about the Israel visa process,” said Galit Hoffman, consul (tourism affairs), Israel's Ministry of Tourism in India. “The e-visa process is very friendly, and applicants just need to follow the instructions and submit required documents strictly,” she added. For applicants with existing US or Schengen visas, the approvals become easier.

While Israel remains popular religious destination, few Indians visit the country for leisure. It has also not been marketed enough as a destination for conferences and events among Indian corporates who prefer value for money destinations in East and Central Asia.

Hoffman said tourism ministry is targeting leisure, family and even conference and events segments from India as it hopes to reach pre-Covid 19 arrival figure of 70,000 visitors.

“We had a conflict situation last two years but now the situation is calm. All major airlines have returned to Israel and this shows their confidence in the market,” she said.

“India’s image in Israel remains strong. Captain Smit Machchar has become a big hero in Israel because of his bravery. When Indians travel to Israel, they will feel at home because of our shared values and traditions,” she said.
