Edelweiss Mutual Fund MD and CEO Radhika Gupta on Tuesday shared lessons from her interaction with Bloomberg founder Mike Bloomberg, praising the billionaire entrepreneur's energy and highlighting his belief that staying relevant is a "daily decision" even 45 years after starting his company. In a post on LinkedIn, the former Shark Tank India judge said Bloomberg, now 84, remains "the most energetic guy in the room" and continues to focus on what comes next despite building one of the world's most influential financial information businesses. Gupta said she asked Bloomberg what had helped a company founded in the 1980s remain relevant through decades of technological disruption. According to her, his answer was not capital or technology, but culture. "45 years after founding his company, he is still asking what's next. Relevance is a daily decision," Gupta wrote. AI is an opportunity, not a threat Gupta also said Bloomberg was unequivocal about artificial intelligence, describing it as a major opportunity rather than a risk. "On AI, he was unambiguous: it has not been a threat, it has been a huge opportunity," she wrote, adding that the asset management industry sees AI as a way to serve investors "better, cheaper and more personally than ever before." The comments come at a time when financial services firms globally are increasingly deploying AI tools across customer service, research, portfolio management and operational functions. Bloomberg's advice to young professionals Among the various takeaways from the interaction, Gupta said her favourite was Bloomberg's straightforward advice for young people. "My favourite take away was his advice to young people, which actually applies to all of us. Just work hard. You have to be in it to win it," she wrote. The Edelweiss MF CEO concluded her post by thanking Bloomberg for the inspiration. Bloomberg in India Bloomberg was in New Delhi this week for the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, which brought together business leaders, policymakers and investors to discuss global economic challenges and opportunities. In a recent column for The Economic Times, Bloomberg argued that India is well positioned to benefit from major shifts reshaping the global economy, including changes in technology, trade and energy. He pointed to India's sustained growth rate, expanding manufacturing base, growing renewable energy sector, rise of GIFT City as an international financial hub, and rapid adoption of digital and AI technologies as factors that could strengthen the country's role in the global economy. Bloomberg also stressed the importance of deeper connections between India and global capital markets, greater collaboration between governments and businesses, and continued international economic engagement as India pursues its next phase of growth.
