Timor-Leste Activates its First International Submarine Cable

Timor-Leste officially started commercial operation of its first international submarine fiber-optic cable on July 28, 2026. Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão inaugurated the system in Dili. The cable connects the nation to Australia, providing faster internet. Officials said it will "significantly reduce the country's reliance on satellite internet."
