Dems select their candidate to face longtime GOP lawmaker who balked Virginia redistricting

Shannon Taylor won the Democratic primary Tuesday in Virginia's 1st Congressional District. She emerged from a crowded seven-candidate field to challenge longtime Republican Rep. Rob Wittman. The general election is set for Nov. 3. Democrats hope shifting suburban voting patterns will help them flip the seat, which Wittman has held since 2007.
