Retail pay barely budges amid 'tight margins, sluggish consumer confidence'

Retail NZ’s 2026 Wages Guide shows average retail pay grew by just 1% to $30.94 an hour. Chief executive Carolyn Young said, "There's been a lot of restructuring and there's been a lot of staff that have been lost." Many retailers now use extra perks like staff discounts to reward workers.
