‘Waste colonialism’ - the Turkish city carrying the weight of Britain’s pollution problem

Between May 2021 and July 2024, 13 British companies sent 52,000 tonnes of plastic waste to the Kemal Deniz recycling zone in Turkey. Residents said this waste caused severe water and air pollution. Local farmer Ayhan said, “We get pollution from all sides here,” as fumes affect his nearby fields.
