On August 2nd, Donald Trump’s attorney-general pick Todd Blanche promised to scrap a $1.8bn fund to win support from Republican senators. The Senate judiciary committee advanced his nomination two days later. While Democrats called the move hollow, some Republicans said it showed the Senate can still check the president’s worst instincts.
