Google built an AI chatbot called LMChat a year before OpenAI launched ChatGPT in 2022. Jeff Dean said on 5 August that Google leaders failed to appreciate how useful these tools could be. He noted, “We actually had an internal chatbot system that Googlers could play with even before ChatGPT.”
