Highest resolution image of the Sun's surface reveals never-before-seen patterns

Astronomers using the Daniel K Inouye Solar Telescope captured the highest-resolution images of the Sun’s surface. These pictures showed swirling plasma patterns called Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities. Friedrich Woger said, "The interface can become unstable and develop wave-like vortices that grow in size until they break apart." This discovery helps explain solar flares.
