Govt plans new drugs law to overhaul pharma, medical device regulation

The government is preparing to replace the 1940 Drugs and Cosmetics Act with the new Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Bill, 2026. This draft law aims to strengthen the powers of the DCGI and introduces stricter bail rules for serious drug offences. It also creates dedicated bodies for medical devices.
