S’pore needs criminal history checks for those working with kids

Singapore needs mandatory criminal history checks for those working with children in the informal education market. Currently, freelance tutors and coaches operate outside strict registration rules. This gap allows convicted offenders to work with kids. Recent court cases in 2026 showed eight former teachers faced charges for sexual offences involving minors.
