The United Nations peacekeeping mandate in southern Lebanon expires at the end of 2026. The European Union now considers a mission to train Lebanese forces. Expert Raymond Murphy said a new force would likely monitor, but with "sufficient capacity to use military force to protect itself and to carry out its mandate."
