Australia news live: Telstra and other telcos ‘can no longer be trusted’ with triple zero service, Sarah Hanson-Young says

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said Australia’s telecommunications system is failing after a Senate committee report recommended nationalising the triple zero service. The inquiry followed the Optus outage of 18 September 2025. Hanson-Young said, “They’re putting their profits first and they can no longer be trusted with Australia’s vital triple zero service.”
