WhatsApp parental controls: WhatsApp has introduced a new set of optional parental controls for teenagers, giving parents more visibility and control over certain privacy settings, groups, Channels and the Meta AI experience.

The new features are aimed at helping parents and teenagers decide together how the messaging app should be used, while keeping personal chats and calls private.

WhatsApp parental controls give parents more privacy settingsUnder the new controls, parents can choose certain privacy settings for their teenage children.

These include deciding who can see the teen's profile photo and who can add them to WhatsApp groups.

If a teenager wants to make these settings less restrictive, parental approval through a parent-set PIN will be required.

Parents can get updates about WhatsApp groupsThe new WhatsApp controls also give parents more information about their teen's group activity.

Parents can receive notifications when their teenager joins or leaves a group. They can also be notified when the number of members in a group increases significantly.

This is designed to give parents a better idea of the kind of group activity their teenager is involved in without giving them access to private conversations.

WhatsApp adds controls for Channels and StatusParents will also get additional options to manage how their teenagers use

WhatsApp Channels.

They can decide which Status updates their teen can view and who can see the teenager's own Status updates.

Parents can control Meta AI accessWhatsApp is also introducing parental controls for its Meta AI experience for teenagers.

Parents can choose between the standard 13+ setting and a stricter Limited Content option, depending on the level of restrictions they want.

WhatsApp said these controls will be introduced gradually and may be expanded based on feedback from families.

WhatsApp messages and calls remain privateThe company said the new controls are optional and parents can change or turn them off whenever they want.

Even when parental controls are enabled, teenagers' personal messages and calls will continue to be protected by end-to-end encryption.

WhatsApp said people outside a chat, including WhatsApp itself, cannot access or listen to users' personal messages and calls.

What this means for WhatsApp usersFor parents, the new features offer more control over some aspects of a teenager's WhatsApp use without giving them access to private chats.

For teenagers, the controls allow parents to set boundaries around groups, privacy, Channels and Meta AI while keeping personal conversations protected.

The move comes after WhatsApp introduced other parental tools earlier this year for younger users, allowing parents and guardians to adjust communication settings and restrict certain features.
