U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, to replace ‘Artificial Intelligence’ with ‘Super Intelligence’. Agencies must now use the new term in all official documents. Mr. Trump said, “Super Intelligence more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies.”

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday (September 29, 2026) signed an executive order directing executive departments and agencies to begin using ‘Super Intelligence’ and ‘SI’ in place of ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘AI.’

While the U.S. President mulled over the idea for around a week, an executive order now means that the new terminology will have to be formally defined and adopted across the relevant U.S. government offices and departments.

Mr. Trump claimed that the change was appropriate when taking into consideration the “promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities” of AI technologies.

The AI-to-SI update is set to apply to official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory documents, per the executive order.

U.S. diplomats have been instructed to make the change in their communications and official correspondence, reported AP.

Media outlets reported earlier in the week that the Chinese foreign ministry had acknowledged the change in terminology and signalled its respect for the policy update.

“The terminology used by the [U.S.] Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people. Accordingly, the term “Super Intelligence” more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies,” stated Mr. Trump in the executive order.
