OnePlus has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16, in China. The new phone arrives with several upgrades over its predecessor, including a larger battery, a higher refresh rate display and a 200-megapixel primary camera. It is also powered by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, which is expected to deliver improved performance for gaming and everyday tasks. In terms of India launch, it remains a factor that we don't know.
OnePlus 16 specs and features
The OnePlus 16 features an OLED display with a 185Hz refresh rate. OnePlus says users can run the system interface and millions of apps at up to 165Hz, which should make scrolling and navigation feel smoother. This is an improvement over the OnePlus 15, which came with a 165Hz display but did not support the same refresh rate for system navigation.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. It is designed to handle demanding tasks, including gaming and multitasking. The phone also comes with an upgraded Glacier cooling system, featuring a vapour chamber that OnePlus claims offers 40 per cent better cooling performance. Custom chips for network connectivity, display and touch response are also part of the package.
For photography, the OnePlus 16 features a triple rear camera setup. This includes a 200-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.6 aperture and a 1/1.4-inch sensor size, a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The telephoto camera uses a Sony IMX882 sensor. OnePlus says the main camera can capture images at the full 200-megapixel resolution. There is also an XPAN-style shooting mode with a wide 65:24 aspect ratio. On the front, the phone gets a 50-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.
The OnePlus 16 packs a 9,000mAh battery, a notable increase over the 7,300mAh battery on the OnePlus 15. It supports 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. According to OnePlus, the phone can reach 80 per cent charge in 37 minutes using wired charging. The company also claims that the battery will retain at least five years of battery health, although it has not shared detailed information about its battery cycle calculations.
Other features include ColorOS 17, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, dual stereo speakers and IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. The smartphone is available in three colour options, including Tomorrow's Starlight, Dark Forest and Mars Masterpiece. The Tomorrow's Starlight variant also features LED lighting on the rear panel, displaying the number "16" along with other design elements.
