More than 60 startups incubated from the Atal Incubation Centre at Puducherry Technological University, Minister P. Rajavelu said. Speaking in New Delhi, he noted the government wants to prepare youth for the digital economy. They also started a programme where many students got placements after finishing internships in IT companies.

More than 60 Startups have incubated from the Atal Incubation Centre established at the Puducherry Technological University, Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare and IT P. Rajavelu has said.

Speaking at the India Mobile Congress held in New Delhi, the Minister said more than 60 Startups have incubated from the centre functioning on the university campus. The Puducherry government was taking all efforts to prepare the youth for the digital economy. The government was in the process of establishing an AI Centre of Excellence with industry and academic partners, he said.

“We will work closely with the Centre to create a strong technology ecosystem in the Union Territory. The government will extend support to companies investing in the software sector, AI, semi-conductor design, electronics, chip design, cloud services and cybersecurity. We are ready to provide land and take care of the infrastructure requirements of the firms,” Mr. Rajavelu said.

Outlining the initiatives taken by the Puducherry government on the digital economy front, the Minister said the administration has facilitated 150 internships for students in 27 IT companies under the Digital Internship Programme. Several students who had undergone the internship programme have got placements now, the Minister said.

He also sought Central assistance to upgrade Puducherry’s State Data Centre and to create a strong cyber security framework for the territory. The Minister during his visit to New Delhi also called on Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, the Minister’s Office said in a release.
