Google is launching the Fitbit Edge today, October 12. The fitness tracker features a 1.34-inch OLED touchscreen and offers seven days of battery life. It sits between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5 in price. Users get built-in GPS and support for apps like Google Maps and YouTube Music.
After waves of speculation and waiting, Google is finally launching another fitness tracker, reportedly called Fitbit Edge. The Mountain View tech giant teased the device on X last Friday, confirming it is set to roll out on October 12. Notably, the new Fitbit model is expected to have a similar appearance as to the Fitbit Charge. A model that Google hasn't released a newer version of since 2023.
Earlier, Android Headlines suggested that the Fitbit Edge would sit between Google's Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5, both in terms of pricing and features. It is expected to be neither like Fitbit Air, which doesn't have a panel, nor like Pixel Watch, a mini smartphone that sits on the wrist. In other words, it would be a less-distracting device with a small-ish display and a limited number of apps. And in terms of price, it is again expected to fall somewhere in the middle.
What we know about the Fitbit Edge
Starting with the design, the Fitbit Edge is said to feature an oval, small-ish 1.34-inch OLED touchscreen. The teaser showed a button on the side of the fitness band, and a set of sensors is said to be on the back.
The Fitbit Edge could offer up to seven days of battery life, similar to the older Fitbit Charge. The fitness tracker is also expected to support a handful of useful apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone. Other possible features include built-in GPS, an altimeter for tracking elevation and automatic workout detection.
This could make the Fitbit Edge a suitable option for people who want to track their fitness and access a few smartphone features on their wrist without dealing with constant notifications or the distractions that come with a smartwatch.
The Fitbit Edge is expected to arrive in multiple colour options, although the exact number remains unknown. The fitness tracker could be available in black, green and orange, possibly matching the Obsidian, Olive and Canyon colours offered with the Pixel 11 Pro series. Google could reveal more colour options in the coming days.
Compared with the Fitbit Air, the Fitbit Edge is expected to support notifications, offer similar battery life, and work with both Android and iOS devices. However, like the Pixel Watch 5, it may support only a limited number of apps, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone. The Fitbit Edge could have an advantage over the Pixel Watch 5 in terms of battery life and compatibility, as the Pixel Watch 5 runs on Wear OS and is compatible only with Android devices.
