OpenAI is releasing a new feature on ChatGPT that might make online shopping easier for you. The AI chatbot will now let you try on clothes virtually - perhaps, giving you a better idea of how a new shirt or jacket may look on you - before you buy them online.

The virtual try-ons feature comes alongside a Favourites option that will let you save products for later.

To make use of this feature, you will need to upload a selfie or a full-body photo to ChatGPT. Then, the AI then uses this to show you how a piece of clothing or an accessory might look on you in real life. The feature appears as a new "Try On" button in ChatGPT shopping results. You can also upload an image of an item and ask ChatGPT to generate a try-on image.

As per the company, this feature is powered by its ChatGPT Images 2.5 model. This model is said to offer more natural lighting and richer textures, while being more reliable in following instructions and lower image generation latency. OpenAI said these improvements are meant to help produce more convincing try-on previews.

The second feature, called Favorites, lets you save products that you discover to a Library in the app. You can then come back and view these products later. As per the company, saved products will appear alongside try-on images, bringing both tools into the same in-app space.

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT can also be used for other shopping-related tasks. You can describe a style you want to try and the AI chatbot can find the pieces needed to complete the look. You can also upload photos of celebrity outfits and ask ChatGPT to identify items that are available to buy.

OpenAI's try-on tool is also similar to a feature that Google introduced to Search in 2025, which lets users upload photos and see themselves in different clothes.

However, OpenAI wants users to be mindful of the images they upload. By default, images uploaded from a personal account can be used for training unless you opt out. Both new features are now rolling out to ChatGPT users globally.
