NEW DELHI: India moved up to fourth place in the Asian Games 2026 medal tally after a big medal-winning day on Saturday. India added five gold medals across wrestling, golf, hockey, cricket and archery to take their overall tally to 85 medals - 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. India's men's hockey team provided the final gold of the day, beating Malaysia 5-1 to retain the Asian Games title and secure a place at the 2028 Olympics. India also won gold through Aman Sehrawat in wrestling, Pranavi Urs in golf, the men's cricket team and Kumkum Mohod in women's individual recurve archery.

India pip Uzbekistan to go fourth

India's five gold medals on Saturday made the biggest difference to their position in the table. From 18 gold medals and fifth place earlier in the day, India finished Saturday with 21 gold medals and moved into fourth. The five golds came from five different sports, underlining the spread of India's medal-winning performances across the Games. With 85 medals in total, India are just one medal behind Kazakhstan's 84, but their much higher gold count puts them comfortably ahead of Kazakhstan in the standings.

1. China — 341 medals China continue to lead the Asian Games medal table by a huge margin. They have won 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals, giving them 341 medals overall. They have won 18 gold, 13 silver and 21 bronze medals. Thailand are level with Iran on total medals but sit seventh because they have fewer gold medals.8. Kazakhstan — 84 medals Kazakhstan have an unusual position in the table. They have won 84 medals — 12 gold, 24 silver and 48 bronze — which is only one medal fewer than India's total of 85. However, Kazakhstan are eighth because the Asian Games medal table is ranked by gold medals first, followed by silver and bronze.
