Bangladesh skipper Litton Das said on Saturday that he will not step down as captain following the team's disappointing performance at the 2026 Asian Games.

Bangladesh failed to secure any medal in a cricket event at the Asian Games for the first time, after going down to Sri Lanka by 63 runs in the bronze medal clash. Tharindu Ratnayake's counter-attacking 65 titled the game Sri Lanka's way, after Bangladesh reduced the Sri Lankan batting order to 21/4.

Litton acknowledged that Bangladesh did not play to their potential, while praising Ratnayake for flipping the game around.

"I think we bowled very well in the first 8 overs. Then you saw the kind of shots [Ratnayake] came and played on this wicket, it was very difficult," Litton told reporters after the game.

"But he batted extraordinarily where our bowlers didn't have a clue how to come back. So credit has to be given to him for playing an extraordinary innings with the bat. And when we went to bat, we couldn't cover it up in any way. Batting wise, we weren't up to the mark today.

When asked about his future as captain, Litton insisted that there was no point in him stepping down, although he acknowledged that his own returns with the bat left more to be desired after managing scores of 2 and 0.

"My performance was not up to the mark. I could not perform well in both the matches," Litton said.

"I don't want to resign. There are ups and downs in cricket. One day it will be good, one day it will be bad. There is no point in resigning here. It's normal. I came with a big target. When I can't deliver that...everyone will feel bad and it's natural. But as a team, we have given a lot in the past. I think we will give in the future too. We will try for that again," he added.

Meanwhile, reports emerged of the Bangladeshi players facing disciplinary action for leaving the team hotel without informing the concerned authorities. With that turning into a topic of discussion after the loss, Litton clarified the reason behind the players stepping out and lashed out at the facilities.

"Practice is required. Are there facilities there? No," Litton said. "So will a player be confined inside a room all day?

"They need energy. If you think that the food that is being provided by the federation here or the food that is being provided by the Asian Games is not suitable for us, then won't a player eat? So if they want to eat, they have to go out. That's what the players did," he said.
