New herbicide-tolerant mustard hybrids need diverse farming plans

Indian farmers will start growing IMI-resistant mustard hybrids in the 2026-27 rabi season to fight Orobanche weed. This technology, developed through mutation breeding, allows herbicide use to kill weeds without harming the crop. Experts, however, urged caution. Deepak Pental said, "the emergence of resistant or less susceptible weed populations."
