Meet Rhinochimaera costaricana: The new deep-sea ghost shark found off the coast of Costa Rica

A new ghost shark, Rhinochimaera costaricana, was found off Costa Rica. Researchers identified this deep-sea species, which has a long snout. Three male specimens were collected between 2000 and 2023 from depths of 390 to 787 metres. This discovery adds a fourth species to the Rhinochimaera genus.
