How the monsoon leaves India: The Sun, the desert and the dry northwesterly winds behind the retreat

On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department declared that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from some parts of West Rajasthan. This marks the first retreat of the 2026 season. The department expects the monsoon to leave the whole country around October 15 as dry, northwesterly winds replace the moist air.
