Fieldwork safety emerges as a structural challenge for ecological research

A new Viewpoint in the journal BioScience says gender-based violence in ecological fieldwork is a structural problem. Author Eve Afonso notes, "the very features that make fieldwork scientifically valuable are also those that can weaken ordinary protective mechanisms." These issues push many researchers out, which distorts how we gain knowledge.
