A bird's eye view of illegal logging and its consequences in the Peruvian Amazon

Illegal logging in Peru’s Allpahuayo-Mishana National Reserve harms local bird populations. Research showed that one year after logging, bird species richness fell by more than 50%. While forests slowly recover, the study said, "illegal logging is a major threat to tropical protected areas around the world," causing long-term environmental damage.
