Four men got arrested after a video showed them thrashing protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party’s stir against Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi on October 10. The clip showed men punching a protester near an iron fence. Police took action after the video went viral, though no formal complaint was filed.
Four men were seen thrashing young protesters during the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi’s Connaught Place on October 10. The four were arrested after a video showing the assault went viral on social media.
The video shows a physical altercation near an iron fence along the roadside. A man in a white shirt is seen pushing and kicking a young protester. Beside that, two men are seen pinning a minor against the fence and punching repeatedly.
The video appears to show that as the minor struggles to break free and runs towards the road, one of the men grabs hold of the T-shirt and pulls the kid down. The man in the white shirt, who was seen assaulting the protester, joins him. The two men then continue raining punches.
At one point, the man in the white shirt called a cop, who was deployed to the spot. However, he then started to assault the protesters again, in front of the cop.
According to police, the video surfaced on social media on Saturday, following which they took cognisance of the matter and arrested four men. Police said no complaint had been received from anyone in connection with the incident and that legal action was being taken.
CJP ACCUSES RSS-BJP WORKERS OF VIOLENCE, BLAMES POLICE FOR NEGLIGENCE
The incident drew a sharp response from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which alleged that BJP-RSS workers assaulted protesters in the presence of Delhi Police personnel during a peaceful protest.
In a post on social media, the CJP described the video as “deeply disturbing” and questioned the role of police personnel present at the spot.
“BJP-RSS goons beating a young girl in the presence of Delhi Police, with an officer seemingly guiding them to stop the recording,” CJP said.
The CJP further questioned why the Delhi Police helped the attackers instead of protecting peaceful protesters.
DELHI POLICE IDENTIFIES SURVIVOR AS 'MALE PROTESTER'
Delhi police later identified the young survivor as a 'male protester' and said appropriate measures have been ensured against all four accused.
"Taking suo motu cognisance of a video circulating on social media showing four men allegedly assaulting a male protester, Delhi Police, PS Kamla Market, acted promptly and initiated legal proceedings," the police said in a statement.
Later, the police arrested all the four accused in the case.
