Early trends in the Tamil Nadu bypolls on Friday showed actor Vijay’s TVK leading in Dharapuram and Madurantakam. Candidate P Sathyabama got 16,201 votes in Dharapuram, while Maragatham Kumaravel leads in Madurantakam. Meanwhile, the AINRC leads in Puducherry’s Thattanchavady constituency. These results are crucial for the ruling parties and the Opposition.
Actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has edged into the lead in Dharapuram, with candidate P Sathyabama polling 16,201 votes at the end of the sixth round. AIADMK’s K Banumathi follows closely with 14,807 votes, a margin of 1,394. The AIADMK had held the advantage in the early rounds, but the contest has tightened and tilted towards TVK. DMK’s Suganya is trailing with 13,797 votes.
Also in Madurantakam, TVK is ahead after the third round. Candidate, Maragatham Kumaravel, leads with 12,075 votes. DVK’s I Paranthamen is trailing with 8,914 votes, while AIADMK’s S Kanithasampath with 6,759 votes.
In Madurantakam’s second round, TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel is leading with 7,615 votes. DVK candidate I Paranthamen is trailing with 6,008 votes, while AIADMK candidate S Kanithasampath has secured 4,301 votes.
In the fourth round of counting for the Tamil Nadu bypolls, AIADMK candidate K Banumathi is leading in Dharapuram with 10,773 votes, ahead of TVK candidate P Satyabama, who has secured 9815 votes. DMK candidate S Suganya is trailing with 8,906 votes.
In the first round of counting for the Tamil Nadu bypolls, AIADMK candidate K Banumathi is leading in Dharapuram with 2,639 votes, just five votes ahead of TVK candidate P Satyabama, who has secured 2,634 votes. DMK candidate S Suganya is trailing with 2,019 votes.
In Madurantakam, TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel is leading with 3,571 votes. DVK candidate I Paranthamen is trailing with 2,611 votes, while AIADMK candidate S Kanithasampath has secured 2,078 votes.
The All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) is leading in Puducherry’s Thattanchavady constituency with 3,209 votes after the first round of bypoll counting. Congress candidate E Vinayagam is trailing with 1,222 votes, as per the Election Commission of India.
In Puducherry, the Thattanchavady bypoll is an early test for the four-month-old NDA government led by Chief Minister N Rangasamy. The seat fell vacant after Rangasamy resigned. The sealed room housing the EVMs was opened after its lock was broken in the presence of the District Collector, Returning Officer and election observers as counting of votes for the Madhurantakam Assembly bypoll began in Tamil Nadu.
In Tamil Nadu, bypolls are being held in Madurantakam and Dharapuram after former AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Satyabama resigned and later joined the ruling TVK. Both are contesting the bypolls again, while the DMK and AIADMK have also fielded candidates in the two constituencies.
