An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai diverted to Hyderabad on October 11, 2026, after a passenger’s power bank caught fire. The cabin crew used fire extinguishers to put out the flames. All passengers and crew got off safely. The airline said, "The safety of passengers and crew remained its top priority."

A fire broke out in the overhead luggage compartment of an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai on Sunday after a passenger’s power bank reportedly malfunctioned, prompting the aircraft to divert to Hyderabad, where it landed safely.

A video recorded by a passenger shows people attempting to douse the flames using their bags. The cabin crew extinguished the fire using fire extinguishers, and all passengers and crew members are safe.

Flight 6E 6115, operated by an Airbus A321-251N, was scheduled to depart Delhi at 1:10 pm on October 11, 2026, but took off at 1:30 pm. It was due to arrive in Chennai at 4 pm before the diversion.

In a statement, IndiGo said the flight was diverted after smoke was detected from a passenger’s personal electronic device. The pilots followed established safety protocols and landed the aircraft safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.

The airline arranged an alternate aircraft to transport passengers to Chennai.

IndiGo apologised for the inconvenience caused by the diversion and said it was providing refreshments and timely updates to passengers. The airline added that the safety of passengers and crew remained its top priority.
