Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday gifted three award-winning Indian cheeses to Swiss President Guy Parmelin during their meeting in New Delhi.

The gifts were presented as the two leaders held wide-ranging talks aimed at strengthening India-Switzerland ties, with a focus on trade, investment, mobility and critical technologies.

The three cheeses, Gulmarg, Konark and Yeoor, were chosen as a tribute to Switzerland's world-famous cheese tradition while showcasing India's own high-quality dairy products, IANS reported.

Gulmarg, a French-style Brie, is a heart-shaped, soft and creamy cheese made from pasteurised cow's milk. It has a snowy-white rind with earthy, mushroom-like flavours and won the Super Gold award at the 2026 Mundial do Queijo do Brasil.

Konark, inspired by the French Tomme style, is a rustic natural-rind cheese with earthy, savoury flavours and a lemony finish. It received Gold at the 2023 World Cheese Awards in Norway and Silver in Switzerland in 2025.

The third gift, Yeoor, is a mountain-style cheese inspired by Swiss Gruyère. Aged for around eight to nine months, it develops nutty, sweet and herbaceous flavours.

Decorated with rose petals and fennel on its rind, it blends Indian ingredients with Alpine traditions and is well suited for fondue and grilled dishes, as per IANS report.

President Parmelin began his three-day visit to India on Monday. This is his first state visit to India and his second visit this year after attending the AI Impact Summit in February.

After arriving in New Delhi, the Swiss President received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan and later paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.
