YSRCP President Jagan Mohan Reddy called Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s promise of reservations to Backward Classes a fraud. Jagan said, "Naidu's deceptive promise has been exposed by the Supreme Court." This followed the court dismissing the government's plea on October 9 regarding local body election quotas exceeding the threshold.
"Naidu's deceptive promise has been exposed by the Supreme Court, and the Super Six promises were another deception, and the cancellation of the schemes that people received under the YSRCP Government was another deception," says Jagan Mohan Reddy
YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should apologise to the Backward Classes (BCs) for betraying them in the name of reservations, calling it a fraud.
He stated in a social media post that Mr. Naidu's deceptive promise has been exposed by the Supreme Court, that the Super Six promises were another deception, and the cancellation of the schemes which people received under the YSRCP Government were another deception.
The manifesto of the coalition government with 143 promises was the biggest deception of all, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy added.
It may be remembered that the Supreme Court dismissed the Andhra Pradesh government's plea on Friday (October 9) against the High Court (HC) judgment on reservations for the Backwards Classes (BCs) in elections to rural and urban local bodies (ULBs).
The High Court had earlier this week set aside G.O. Nos. 105 and 1065, through which the government sought to provide 34% reservation to BCs in Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) and 33.33% quota in the ULBs, saying they exceeded the 50% threshold.
Earlier to this a Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court led by Chief Justice Lisa Gill and comprising Justice Challa Gunaranjan on Thursday (October 8) set aside G.O. Nos. 105 and 1065 through which the government provided 34% reservation to the Backward Classes (BCs) in Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) and 33.33% quota in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), saying that they exceeded the 50% threshold laid down by the Supreme Court.
A couple of weeks ago, CM Naidu had announced that 34 % reservation for the BCs in rural body polls and 33.33 % reservation in the urban local bodies, and he had said that the Backward Classes (BCs) form the political and socioeconomic backbone of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
