A 46-year-old married woman from Noida and her 27-year-old partner were found hanging in a Bahraich hotel room on Friday. The pair checked in as husband and wife on September 22. Police said, "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide," and sent bodies for a post-mortem examination.

A 46-year-old married woman from Noida and her 27-year-old partner were found hanging in a hotel room in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich, police said on Friday.

The two had checked into the hotel on September 22, posing as husband and wife.

The victims were identified as Pinky, a resident of Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Rinku from Shravasti. The two met on social media and developed a relationship.

Police said Rinku had brought Pinky to Bahraich a few days earlier and that the two subsequently checked into the hotel.

Pinky's family, however, told police that Rinku had taken her away from Noida.

A police officer said the hotel operator alerted police on Thursday evening after noticing that there had been no activity in the room since morning and finding the situation suspicious.

A police team, accompanied by women personnel and the hotel operator, opened the room and found the two hanging, he said.

An FSL team was called to the spot and an investigation was launched.

The officer said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem examination. "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The exact circumstances will become clear after the post-mortem report," he said.

The reason for the deaths remains unclear.

Police are examining statements from family members, mobile phone call details and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
