Mamdani Invokes Mandela While Backing Umar Khalid and Palestine

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani backed jailed student Umar Khalid at the Nelson Mandela Global Leadership Forum on 15 July 2026. Mamdani said, "Solidarity, as Madiba showed us for 95 years, is not just a value, it is a strategy." He also questioned the ongoing developments and detention in Palestine.
