Icelandic voters reject a proposal to restart negotiations to join the European Union

Icelandic voters rejected a proposal to restart negotiations on joining the European Union on Sunday. Opponents defeated the measure by 52.8% to 47.2% in the national vote. Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir said, "I don't feel that there is bitterness." The result puts the long-debated issue to rest for the island nation.
