Delhi Police detained over 100 protesters on Sunday as the Cockroach Janta Party marched to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Authorities deployed 40,000 security personnel and sealed Jantar Mantar to control the crowds. Ajinkya Shinde said, "protests would continue until Kumar resigned," despite the heavy police presence across Delhi.
Delhi Police maintained security restrictions across central Delhi on Sunday, keeping Jantar Mantar sealed and diverting traffic at 30 points, as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) vowed to continue its agitation demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.
CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka alleged an "emergency-like" situation in the capital, accusing authorities of using excessive force against protesters and disrupting transport services. Das also suspected that their phones had been hacked or cloned during detention.
More than 100 protesters, including CPI(M) MP John Brittas and student activists, were detained while attempting to march towards Jantar Mantar. Several journalists were also briefly detained near RK Ashram. Ajinkya Shinde, designated to lead the agitation after CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke's detention, said protests would continue until Kumar resigned. AISA president Neha Bora also called for further demonstrations.
Over 40,000 security personnel, including central armed police forces, were deployed across Delhi amid restrictions on gatherings and processions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Metro station gates reopened on Saturday night, and rail restrictions were lifted, though traffic diversions continued. Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc announced a separate protest for Monday, with opposition leaders planning to seek expedited hearings on cases related to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and the Election Commission.
