Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary sparked controversy on October 6, 2026, by downplaying viral molestation videos. Addressing a youth event in Rohtas, he said, "They could only find 5 videos in all of Bihar." The RJD slammed his remarks, arguing that many crimes go unreported and lack video evidence daily.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has triggered controversy once again with his latest remark, stating that viral videos of sexual assault and molestation of girls in Bihar were only a few incidents in the State.

While addressing a 'Yuva Samvad' (Youth Dialogue) programme in Rohtas's on Tuesday (October 6, 2026), Mr. Choudhary said, "This is a changed Bihar, and let people form any perception. I tell my friends that they (critics) could only find 5 videos in all of Bihar."

He further said, "Millions of our sisters have stepped out of their homes; 1.81 crore sisters are working. As the Chief Minister of Bihar, I guarantee, if anybody touches them, I will put them behind bars within 24 hours. If any complaint comes, action will be taken immediately."

Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) posted the video of his speech on its official social media account X and criticised the Bihar CM for his remarks.

"'Only able to pull up 5 videos?' If the CM has any shame, even one video should be enough! One should have enough sense to know that not every crime gets a video, and where there's no video, even a leaf of their shameless government machinery does not move," RJD said in the post.

It further wrote, "When the victim's side is weak, not even a report gets filed! Every day in Bihar, there are nearly 300-400 incidents of murder, rape, shootouts, attempted murder, kidnapping, molestation, robbery, theft, snatching, fraud, cyber fraud, bribery... but if someone is utterly shameless, how on earth can you shame them?"

Reels controversy

Earlier, Mr. Choudhary landed in controversy after his statement with regard to making reels went viral on social media. Reacting to the Jamui incident in which a minor girl was molested, Mr. Choudhary said that had the criminals not made a reel of the incident, they would not have been caught.

The trigger is the statement of Mr. Choudhary, in which he was found suggesting that the criminals live their own lives.

"You (criminals) live your own lives; nobody is objecting, but one cannot become a hero of society by committing crimes. These days people are losing their lives in the pursuit of making reels. Everyone must have seen what happened today. If he had not made the reel, would he have been caught? How many people will lose their lives in pursuit of making reels?' Mr. Choudhary said.

In the last 20 days, a series of harassment and assault cases involving minors has taken place in Bihar and more than half a dozen videos have gone viral on social media, one each from Jamui, Banka, Kishanganj, Gaya ji, Begusarai, and two from Samastipur district.

Opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party, have repeatedly criticised the State government, saying law and order have collapsed in Bihar.

However, in most cases, the Bihar police have arrested the accused, and in some cases, criminals have faced police encounters.
