Newly appointed BJP Uttarakhand in-charge Ram Madhav urged party leaders and workers to aim for more than 60 seats in the 2027 Assembly elections, rather than a simple majority.

The RSS ideologue, on his first visit to Uttarakhand as the party's state in-charge, said unprecedented development had taken place under the Modi and Dhami governments.

"As political workers, we must take their message to every single person and move forward with a political vision and pledge for crossing 60 seats instead of obtaining mere absolute majority," he said.

The Uttarakhand Assembly has 70 seats.

Madhav is on a two-day visit to the state with co-in-charges Bansuri Swaraj, a Delhi MP, and Arvind Menon. On the first day, he met party office-bearers in Dehradun to review preparations for the Assembly elections.

Uttarakhand is due to go to the polls in early 2027, along with Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.

"Today, some people are busy dividing youth on their age. These forces have anti-national and anti-Sanatan mindset. This needs to be exposed by us," she said.

Swaraj said the party should contest the elections on the report card of its governments.

"People of Uttarakhand are willing to bestow their blessings to the BJP for a third consecutive term. Our collective target should be BJP Government for the third time," she said.

Taking a swipe at CJP and the Congress leadership, Swaraj accused one leader of trying to lead the country by forming a "Cockroach Party" and another of posing as a "Common Man". She said a Congress leader would become a senior citizen in four years and accused these leaders of harbouring "anti-national and anti-Sanatan sentiments".

Newly appointed state organisational general secretary Phanindranath Sharma said the BJP had performed better than expected in Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Maharashtra, and should seek similar results in Uttarakhand.

He described a majority in 2027 as a foregone conclusion but said the target should be 63 seats, rather than the 36 needed for a simple majority. He said the Opposition must decide whether it wanted to remain in the political contest in future.
