Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), led by BJP city chief Dayashankar Tiwari, performed symbolic 'pind daan' and 'tarpan' rituals for former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi
The BJP in Nagpur has attacked Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, saying he was suffering from a "mental disorder" and spreading "anarchy" in the country, evoking a sharp reaction from the Congress, which said the Leader of Opposition had become the voice of the common man.
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), led by BJP city chief Dayashankar Tiwari, performed symbolic 'pind daan' and 'tarpan' rituals for former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi at Variety Square in Nagpur city on Friday (October 9, 2026).
Pind daan and tarpan are sacred Hindu ancestral rituals performed to honor departed souls with the belief of providing them spiritual peace.
Talking to reporters later, BJP's Nagpur city unit chief Dayashankar Tiwari said, "In Sanatan Dharma, it is said that if a person has a mental disorder, one of the many causes can be 'pitru dosh' (ancestral karmic imbalance) and the way Rahul Gandhi is behaving in the country and abroad, it seems that he has a mental disorder and is active in anti-national activities."
For this reason, the BJYM performed 'pitru shanti' by placing the photographs of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he said.
"We believe that the removal of 'pitru dosh' will bring wisdom to Rahul Gandhi, and expect that he will take up a more positive role for the nation," Mr. Tiwari said.
BJYM's city unit president Sachin Karare said Gandhi should know that from three generations, members of his family have served as prime ministers but he does not know how to respect elders.
"The Prime Minister is older than him, and Rahul Gandhi should see what the PM has done for the nation. But he is creating anarchy and his mind has become empty. It is for this reason that the BJYM performed the 'shraadh' of his ancestors and prayed that good sense prevails upon him," he added.
Reacting to this, Congress' city chief Prafulla Gudadhe said on Saturday (October 10) that the Constitution has given the common man the right to ask questions, and Rahul Gandhi is exercising that right.
"What is the job of an Opposition leader? To raise the voice of the common people inside and outside Parliament and to ask questions. However, whenever he (Gandhi) asks questions, BJP gets scared," he said.
Mr. Gudadhe alleged that the BJP does not want questions to be asked, and they want you to accept their old mindset and 'Manuvadi' way of thinking.
"They want the power of religion. But the Constitution rejected the rule of religion and established the rule of the people. So when they are in power now, this whole mindset is showing that they are trying to recreate the old order...This is their dirty thinking, and part of their Manuwadi mindset. We do not give much importance to them," Mr. Gudadhe alleged.
Reacting to this, Congress leader and the party's former state unit chief Nana Patole said Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi sacrificed their lives for the country.
"But through such rituals, the BJP's sin is coming to the fore," he alleged.
On the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) agitation and the central government's action against the protesters, Patole said, "The Modi government is frightened. For the past five days, it tried to crush Rahul Gandhi's movement. Thousands of security personnel were deployed for that purpose."

Metro, railway and internet services in Delhi have been shut down. Now protests will ignite across the country against the Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the BJP, he added.
"It is clear that the government was formed by vote theft. It would not be an exaggeration to call this government crueller than the British," he alleged.
