Raghu Kautilya, BJP MLC and State president of the party's OBC Morcha, on Saturday (October 3) alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka was neglecting backward communities by allocating inadequate funds to development corporations meant for their welfare.

He said the government had allocated ₹129 crore to the Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Development Corporation, ₹17.88 crore to the Vishwakarma Community Development Corporation, ₹6.88 crore to the Ambigara Choudayya Development Corporation, ₹16.5 crore to the Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes Development Corporation, ₹82.5 crore to the Veerashaiva Lingayat Development Corporation and ₹82.5 crore to the Vokkaliga Development Corporation.

Mr. Kautilya said the allocations made to various development corporations for backward communities were considerably lower than those made during the previous BJP government. He alleged that despite the Congress government making frequent claims about the welfare of backward communities, adequate financial support was not being provided for their development.

Referring to the ongoing protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Mr. Kautilya said the protests amounted to opposition to the country.

When a journalist questioned how protests against alleged illegalities and irregularities in the functioning of the Election Commission of India, particularly over the alleged exclusion of eligible voters from electoral rolls, could be described as anti-national, Mr. Kautilya remained answerless for a while and said everyone had the right to question alleged irregularities within the legal framework.

MLA Basavaraj Mattimadu, MLC B.G. Patil, former Kalaburagi Lok Sabha member Umesh Jadhav, BJP city president Chandu Patil, BJP rural president Ashok Bagali and party leaders Avvanna Myakeri and Nitin Guttedar were present.
