Supreme Court shifts contempt pleas on ‘bulldozer justice’ to High Courts

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday (July 16, 2026) shifted contempt petitions regarding ‘bulldozer justice’ to State High Courts. The Bench said High Courts are better suited to handle these cases because many need an enquiry into facts. The court previously declared illegal demolitions as an arbitrary use of power.
