Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conference from Chennai on Sunday inaugurated the Paramakudi railway station, which was upgraded at a cost of ₹13.96 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

The station has recorded a sustained growth in passenger traffic and revenue.

During 2025-26, the station recorded 8.88 lakh originating passengers, passenger revenue of ₹11.09 crore and a footfall of 15.98 lakh passengers. The corresponding daily averages were 2.435 originating passengers, passenger revenue of approximately ₹3.04 lakh per day and 4,380 passenger in daily footfall.

The appearance of the station has been enhanced through façade improvement and canopy works, along with improvements to the existing station buildings. Platform infrastructure has also been upgraded with improved platform surfaces and new platform shelters, comprising two bays at platform 1 and two bays at platforms 2 and 3. Alongside, fencing has been constructed along the edges of platforms to ensure safety.

A major infrastructure is the construction of new 6-metre-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connecting platform no 1 with 2 and 4, providing convenient movement of passengers across the platforms. In addition, two lifts have been provided at the existing FOB, further improving accessibility, particularly for senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, children, pregnant women and passengers carrying luggage.

Ramanathapuram MP N. Navas Kani, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dharmar, Paramakudi MLA K.K. Kathiravan, among others participated in the event.
