At least 109 migrants, including 15 children, have died and more than 116 remain missing after a boat carrying around 350 people capsized while travelling from Djibouti to Yemen, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) said on Sunday.
More than 80 people survived the shipwreck, all of them Ethiopian nationals, according to the IOM. The boat capsized near Guhere, north of Obock, a port town in Djibouti, during the night of October 8-9, the UN migration agency said, citing accounts from survivors.
The boat was carrying approximately 350 people when it overturned, leaving scores dead or unaccounted for. The full circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.
A spokesperson for the Ethiopian government did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
