Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the Andhra Pradesh government will move the Supreme Court regarding BC reservations. The High Court recently dismissed a government order providing 34 percent reservation in local body polls. Naidu said, "We would move the Supreme Court on the issue," to ensure welfare for the community.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu claimed that the TD had always remained supportive to the BCs, since the party's inception.
He was speaking at the Pedalaku Sevalo programme in Bapatla, he said that they had implemented reservations in the local body polls. The YSRC party had cut the BC quota to 24 per cent, he said.
After the coalition government took charge, the BC reservation was increased to 34 per cent. At the time, the YSRC had approached the court and objected to the proposal. We would move the Supreme Court on the issue, he said.
The TD chief said that their party was committed to the welfare of the BCs and development both financially and politically. He alleged that the YSRC hatched a conspiracy against the DSC by filing over 300 cases against the process. Now, the YSRC leaders are trying to obstruct the hike in BC reservation, he said.
The AP High Court had dismissed the GO providing 34 pc reservation to BCs in the local body polls. The court stated that the total reservation should not exceed 50 pc. Following the court orders, the AP government has decided to approach the Supreme Court on the issue. The CM directed the officials to file a petition on BC reservation in the Supreme Court before next Monday. Advocate General Dammaalapati Srinivas had consulted law experts on the reservation issue.
